St Ives is sought after by executives, families and retirees who are attracted to its secluded, leafy lifestyle and easy access to parks, golf courses and top schools.
With its clean, green and quiet streets, there’s no need to leave the city for a tree change. St Ives offers the best of both worlds while allowing you to continue living in the suburbs.
St Ives inhabitants are continually tempted outdoors by the many parks, reserves and community based sporting amenities. Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to the north and Garigal National Park to the east have plenty of walking and bike tracks, horse trails and lookout points.
Despite being a haven from Sydney’s more built up areas, it’s still well connected to the CBD and other business centres.
The St Ives Shopping Centre also provides a meeting point and gathering place where residents can stock up on necessities and relax over a meal or coffee.
Smaller apartment-style developments can be found around the St Ives Shopping Centre on Mona Vale Road but the majority of homes in St Ives are larger freestanding houses with backyards, set on spacious (often double) blocks.
Properties available to rent in St Ives include a mix of older Federation-style homes, newer weatherboard houses (dating from the 60s) and modern architect-designed properties.
Current average rents in St Ives are $1300pw for a three-bedroom house and $650pw for a two-bedroom unit.
Mona Vale Road connects St Ives to the CBD in one direction and Sydney’s Northern Beaches in the other.
It meets up with the Pacific Highway to the south, where residents can access train services on the North Shore Line at Pymble, Gordon or Turramurra. Bus connections to the CBD also operate from St Ives.
The suburb is in the public schools catchment area for St Ives, St Ives Park and St Ives North Primary Schools. St Ives High School offers public education for students in Years 7-12.
Private schools include Sydney Grammar School Prep (boys), Brigidine College St Ives (girls) and Masada College (co-ed). NSW’s longest established autism-specific school, the Aspect Vern Barnett School, is also located in St Ives.
