There once was an anxious renter that heard of a particular type of agent that specialises in helping renter’s, like her, secure their ideal home. Because she had a difficult personality and rightfully admitted same, she thought that this renter’s agent might be the key to overcoming her anxious tendencies and hired them to represent her to find and settle her into a new home.
Soon after the search had started and property suggestions were being exchanged between agent and renter, the renter decided that the size of the apartments on the suggestion list were all way too small. This Inner City dweller had different ideas when it came to high rise apartments in the hustle and bustle of Sydney.
The needle in the haystack started to slump down to the bottom of the pile after that first inspection but the renter’s agent was still optimistic that she would find the perfect apartment, so brushed off the negativity, adjusted her expectations and got back to work.
The perfect apartment then surfaced, oversized, warehouse style, sunny and bright, pet friendly and just perfect for the client, ticking every single box. It looked and felt like a perfect fit. Application was submitted to the agent who then indicated it would be a positive outcome, but next day the news arrived that the landlord chose another applicant. As renter’s agents, we are not use to not getting the properties that we/our clients apply for. That sick feeling you feel when you don’t deliver on a presentation or you’re not successful on a job offer ?……we felt that kick in the guts and we had to deliver the news to the renter…… the anxious renter!
Suffice to say after that delivery the criteria then quickly changed. Smaller sized apartment, not bigger, different area, smaller pocket of one suburb only, it no longer has to be pet friendly, carpet is now acceptable ….and the list kept changing.
The renter’s agent became more anxious than the renter.
She ended up finding the client an exceptional apartment that may not have been as spacious as the first one but it felt like home. In a good neighbourhood, close to all amenities and in the end, lots of room and fresh air for her 5 year old cavoodle. It took education about the process, patience from both parties and a lot of conversations to find the perfect home for our anxious renter, but without all of these things, her beautiful new home would just be another rental.
